Truly God Devotional 3

Truly God Devotional 3

Sometimes Jesus spoke in parables using symbolism to communicate with those who would understand. Those who wouldn't understand....well, they just didn't get it. Other times He was soft, sharp and to the point. He didn't waste time or words. Ever. So lets visit John 4:25 & 26 and see what else Jesus said about who He was.

John 4:25,26

The woman said, "I know that Messiah is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us." Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am He."

Well, that was simply said. There was no way the woman could have missed that message. Jesus says that He is Messiah. Messiah is a term that means "anointed one." In the Old Testament the term was used as a summary of a coming king who would lead, teach and save God's people. He would be a great king of David's lineage.

Deuteronomy 18:15 says, "The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me among you, from your brothers-it is to him you shall listen."

Verse 18 goes on to say, "I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him."

In this passage from John 4, the Messiah is here and revealing His deity to this lone Samaritan woman. He knew her truth! She certainly was impressed with Him because she returned to town to tell others and get them to come and see Him. How wonderful to have met the savior! As Christians, someday we will meet Him too!

So far we have covered quite a few descriptions that Jesus has spoken about who He is.

He indirectly told Nicodemus that He was the "son of man."

He told the Samaritan woman at the well that He was a gift of God, a life-giver and the anointed-by-God Messiah. Now that's a hallelujah moment right there people! Have a blessed week!
