Truly God Devotional 4

Truly God Devotional 4

This is the fourth in this devotional series and we're hoping that you are enjoying it as much as we are. So many people today are more comfortable thinking of Jesus as a prophet only. But that's not at all who Jesus said that He was. The Bible has allowed Jesus to communicate with us over the centuries and its pages are full of prophecies of Jesus' coming and the actual words spoken by Jesus while He walked this Earth. Let's look again at John and see how else Jesus describes Himself.

John 5:19-23

So Jesus said to them, "Truly truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father."

When Jesus says, "Truly Truly" He really means it! We see in vs. 19 that Jesus and God work together in perfect harmony. Jesus was incapable of doing anything different than what the Father was doing. This could only be said of one who is the same as the Father; one being. God loved His son Jesus so much that He shared ALL of His power with His perfect, but fully human son. The Jews didn't like that Jesus made himself equal with God. They considered it blasphemous. They didn't see the divinity of Jesus' healing and resurrection power. It was a hard concept to understand. The dual nature of Jesus and God in one person was made quite clear in the Old Testament also.

In Deuteronomy 32:39 we see that only God has the power to raise the dead and heal. "See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand."

I Samuel 2:6 states, "The Lord kills and brings to life; he brings down to Shoel and raises up."

II Kings 5:7 says, "And when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, "Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy?"

Healing and resurrection power are the sole prerogative of God proving that Jesus was fully human and fully God. Jesus and God are fully interchangeable.

How wonderful! Jesus is one with God and IS God. He is Healer. He is deity. He is judge. He is wonderful isn't He? Yes He is!
