Truly God Devotional 5

Truly God Devotional 5

When we make our cookie dough it is made with lots of love. The cookies remind us of home and hearth and of family and friends. Food can be a comfort when we aren't feeling well and is a necessary component of human life. But what of our spiritual life? In John 6:33 & 35, Jesus explains just exactly who He is in terms that ALL people can understand.

"For the bread of God is He who comes down from Heaven and gives life to the world." Jesus said to them, " I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst."

Jesus says that He is food and water. These are both major necessities for sustaining the human body. Food and water gives us energy and as children allows us to grow. It is the foundation of human existence. It fills us up, comforts us, and renews our strength. It quenches our need or emptiness.

Through Jesus, God has continued to give the bread, but rather than the Manna of the Old Testament, it is a sustaining and eternal spiritual bread in the form of Jesus, God's only Son.

Much like the woman at the well who understood "the living water" literally, so too was the message of the "bread" taken. Utilizing the example of a basic human need, Christ tells and shows who He is. Jesus, "the bread of life" gives eternal life to everyone. In Him all of our basic human needs and spiritual needs are satisfied. Jesus is the bread of life! Believe in Him and live!
